All about the Educational Route: In The Footsteps Of The Bicentennial.

    General Description

The event of the bicentennial of Colombia’s independence will be celebrated throughout the country and reminds us of the process by which we finally managed to free ourselves from the Spanish crown and began to consolidate as a nation.

It is important to understand, under the lights of the new history, the social, political, cultural and economic framework given at that time; highlighting the people, men and women who made it possible. Within which people like Antonio Nariño, Simón Bolívar, Antonio Ricarte, Policarpa Salavarrieta and other determined Creoles who forged their own identity and brought the ideas of modernity, promulgated human rights and laid the foundations of a constitutional republic, will have an irreplaceable place. As well as mestizo peasants, women, mothers and indigenous groups that fought or collaborated decisively in the liberation struggle.

It is about the consolidation of our country as a nation-state and it is part of the roots of our national identity.
Therefore, it is justified to carry out pedagogical and cultural activities around this historical celebration, as a means to disseminate and appropriate our cultural and historical heritage, our memory, identity as Colombians and sense of belonging.

Our Bicentennial Plan for schools is a pedagogical route designed specifically for students from educational institutions, which can be done in one day and has proven to be an effective tool for the appropriation of our national history. It begins with a visit and professional explanation of the BOYACÁ BRIDGE AND ITS MONUMENTS, including the largest explanatory cyclorama or mural in Latin America: The Boyaca Bridge was the place where the last battle that sealed our independence took place; afterwards we will visit VILLA DE LEYVA where we will be able to choose or divide the visiting group in several activities taking advantage of its multiple museums and the professional historical explanation of the Saquencipá Valley where it is located. Let’s remember that the first congress of the New Granada was held there in 1812 and that it is a town declared national monument since 1956, where Antonio Ricaurte was born and Antonio Nariño died.
